Clash of the Tastes

As mentioned earlier Taylor, Scott and I wanted to go see Clash of the Titans on Saturday but were out of luck. We decided to go today as Tuesdays are matinee prices all day, and met up at the theater with Rosemary and John and Cynthia. Needless to say the movie sucked, but we enjoyed the A/C and each others company which has been the best we can say about most of our movie trips this year.

Seeing a movie is a Samoa is a little different than seeing one in the states. Unless you live in the most Podunk town known to man, within a little bit of a drive you can see a pretty decent variety of movies. On our lovely island Nu’uuli Place Cinema is the only movie theater on Island and only shows two movies at a time. Each movie changes about every two to three weeks, with a few popular ones hanging around for over a month.

This doesn’t sounds too bad, does it? You figure you’ll get to see a smattering of the most popular movies so at least once a month something decent will come up.

Wrong.

Once you account for Samoan movies tastes the picture is much more grim. To get an idea if a movie is going to be shown here please answer the flowing questions about the movie in mind, adding or subtracting points as listed if the answer is “yes”.

Is it an action movie? +10
Is it a romantic comedy? -2
Is it a family film? +5
Are there explosions? +10
Is the f-word used upwards of 20 times? +5
Is the protagonist defending family honor? +20
Is it artistic? -8
Is the plot easy to understand? +13
Is it making a political statement? -25
Is it reminiscent of American Pie? +20
Does it suck? +15
Is there gratuitous nudity and/or violence? +15
Is it Twilight? + 30
Are there subtitles? -50
Is the Rock in it? +1,000,000

If the movie you had in mind earned more than 50 points, good news! It will most likely be shown at Nu’uuli Place Theater!

Here were out most recent movies:

Wonderful selection, huh? The only quasi-decent movies that we've had this year are Where the Wild Things Are, Avatar and Sherlock Holmes. Literally the best movies available in a whole year. WWTA was only here for a week and I'm pretty sure we only got it here because they thought the monsters would eat Max in the end. However, I will concede that this is a sacrifice that I am willing to make to live on this tropical island.

  1. I think all of those movies would be pretty entertaining if you give them a chance! Personally, I would like to see all of them except Cop Out :)
